Release Notes: FJAKA

FJAKA started at dinner, in a restaurant looking out over the sea. Warm air, no schedule and no reason to turn the evening into work. It was one of those summer moments that did not want to hurry.

The cover is not that exact scene. We moved the feeling onto a balcony, with drinks in our hands. Memory kept the atmosphere. The artwork found its own room for it.

The track arrived with the same lack of pressure. Nobody asked it to be especially hard or technically impressive. It needed warm air, open space and a rhythm that could take its time without becoming lazy.

MiK brought in a Singjay part. Then came the vocal mix.

“We rolled the dice without him. He lost.”

He could watch and listen, but had restricted access to his own mixer channel. This was apparently considered responsible studio management. We let him keep the chair.

The voice got a little EQ and compression. No flanger. No vocoder. No attempt to make it deeper, rougher or artificially interesting. It already had the character we needed, which left several perfectly good buttons untouched.

FJAKA carries the easy part of summer, the one that stays outside a little longer. It is not the hardest Solanoxx track. It still came from the same room, the same instincts and the same people arguing over the last detail.
