Release Notes: Baila Papi
Some tracks begin with a deep concept. This one began because MiK heard “Papi Chulo” somewhere and thought it was funny.
Very sophisticated.
The phrase stayed in our chat, nobody let it go, and eventually it started asking for a rhythm. First came the dembow pulse, a bit singjay, then the Caribbean warmth, steel drums, bratty vocals and enough baila, papi to make standing still feel unnecessarily stubborn. And because we are still Solanoxx, the hard kick arrived too, obviously.
The playful part was important. Lina does not wait politely for Papi to find the rhythm. She teases, directs and keeps pushing until the calm, serious man is left with one reasonable option: Dance. (Baila)
It was not meant to become a serious statement about Latin music or a carefully planned genre experiment. It was a phrase, an energy and a joke that had enough character to survive becoming a track. That is often how our ideas work. Someone hears something. We make it slightly worse. Then much better. Now it has a krosper bassline.
Papi Chulo started the joke. Baila Papi became the track.
